The newly established Kin Museum of Contemporary Art in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost mining city in Sápmi, welcomes its first major Indigenous exhibition In the Footsteps of the Stars—The Embroidered Worlds of Britta Marakatt-Labba. Sámi artist Britta Marakatt-Labba‘s retrospective, following its Oslo debut, brings together 70 textile artworks that tell stories of Sámi life and culture. The exhibition centers on Historjá (History)(2004–07), a striking 24-meter embroidered panorama displayed in a curved layout that reflects Sámi storytelling. Through detailed needlework, Marakatt-Labba’s works span from 1970s political resistance to present-day environmental sovereignty concerns. On view through March 16, 2025.
